Fiscal Sponsorship

Great art does not always come with a nonprofit corporation behind it.

Artists, directors, musicians, theater companies, dance organizations, and other creative groups often have the vision and ability to make something meaningful happen, but lack the 501(c)(3) status, administrative infrastructure, or fundraising tools needed to pursue certain grants and accept tax-deductible contributions. That's where we come in.

Through fiscal sponsorship, Gloria Arts Project provides a way for qualifying arts projects in Northern Idaho to raise money and pursue funding opportunities through our nonprofit organization, without having to create a nonprofit of their own.

What is fiscal sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship is a relationship between a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and an independent artist, creative group, or arts project.

Gloria Arts Project provides the nonprofit infrastructure that allows qualifying projects to raise charitable funds and pursue grants through our organization.

You create the work. We provide the structure that helps you fund it.

Does Gloria Arts Project own my project?

No.

Your project remains your project. You lead the creative work and are responsible for producing it.

Gloria Arts Project provides the nonprofit framework for fundraising and maintains the legal control over charitable funds required of a 501(c)(3).

What can I do through Gloria Arts Project?

Depending on the project, you can:

  • Accept tax-deductible donations

  • Apply for grants requiring a 501(c)(3)

  • Seek foundation and institutional funding

  • Fundraise from your own supporters

  • Create a dedicated project fundraising page

  • Receive charitable funds for eligible project expenses

Can people donate specifically to my project?

Yes.

Each sponsored project can have its own fundraising page so supporters can choose the project they want to support.

Do I have to become a nonprofit?

No.

That's one of the main reasons fiscal sponsorship exists. You can pursue a project without creating an entirely separate nonprofit organization.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Generally, yes. Contributions are made to Gloria Arts Project for the charitable purposes of the sponsored project and are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Gloria Arts Project provides the charitable acknowledgment to donors.
